With this concert, The Waterboys want to celebrate and explore the music from their classic album “Fisherman’s Blues” (1988).
For such a significant occasion, the legendary violinist Steve Wickham will rejoin the band, as will the great American roots singer-songwriter Steve Earle, who will perform as a member of this Revue, both singing his own songs and adding vocals, guitar, and mandolin to those of The Waterboys. In this regard, Earle has stated: “I only ever wanted to be in three bands: The Rolling Stones, NRBQ, and The Waterboys”. Other members of the band will include Brother Paul (organ), Famous James (piano), Aongus Ralston (bass), Eamon Ferris (drums), and the Norwegian Roar Øien on lap steel.
Regarding the period in The Waterboys’ career that this concert will revive, the band’s leader, Mike Scott, has defined it as follows: “It was a pivotal time for The Waterboys, and it’s always exciting to dive back into its spirit and see what happens. We’ll be playing with an eight-piece band, including the great Steve Earle, with whom I’ve wanted to do a project for years, who will bring his American roots and incredible songs to the party. These promise to be among the best shows in the history of The Waterboys”.
It is also worth noting that The Waterboys will release on July 17, 2026 the triple album “Atlantic Rain” (on Chrysalis Records), which will include previously unreleased tracks from the “Fisherman’s Blues” sessions, as well as alternative takes of the songs that ultimately made up the album. Mike Scott comments on those sessions as follows: “We made so much music at that time, with hundreds and hundreds of individual recordings, that I’m still discovering magical things in the vaults. This collection of tracks contains the best I’ve found so far; the music is as good as that on the original album”.
